We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

We are currently receiving a large number of applications for data submission, and the review process is taking longer than usual. We sincerely apologize for the delay and kindly ask for your understanding. When submitting an application, we would greatly appreciate it if you could allow sufficient time for the processing.

Following a change to our organizational structure effective April 1, 2026, this division has been renamed from the "Database Center for Life Science, Joint Support-Center for Data Science Research" to the "Database Division for Life Science (DBCLS), BioData Science Initiative (BSI), National Institute of Genetics (NIG)". Where the former name still appears in the guidelines, please read it as the new name.

Research title

Identification of new molecular targets with profiling of malignant mesothelioma

Research overview

Aims
Malignant pleural mesothelioma which is associated with asbestos exposure is highly aggressive and refractory to conventional therapeutic modalities. The aim of this study is identification of new targets for molecular target therapy by next generation sequencing and application of the genomic data to new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for malignant pleural mesothelioma patients.
Methods
Exome: We extracted genomic DNAs from surgical specimens or established mesothelioma cell lines from Japanese malignant pleural mesothelioma patients. We also extracted control DNAs from peripheral blood of the same patients. We performed whole exome sequencing using these DNAs.
WGS: We extracted genomic DNAs from established mesothelioma cell lines from Japanese malignant pleural mesothelioma patients. We sequenced those genomic DNAs using 10X Genomics sequencing technologies, and analyzed genomic structural variations.
Participants/materials
38 Malignant pleural mesothelioma patients (including 12 established mesothelioma cell lines)
