We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

We are currently receiving a large number of applications for data submission, and the review process is taking longer than usual. We sincerely apologize for the delay and kindly ask for your understanding. When submitting an application, we would greatly appreciate it if you could allow sufficient time for the processing.

Following a change to our organizational structure effective April 1, 2026, this division has been renamed from the "Database Center for Life Science, Joint Support-Center for Data Science Research" to the "Database Division for Life Science (DBCLS), BioData Science Initiative (BSI), National Institute of Genetics (NIG)". Where the former name still appears in the guidelines, please read it as the new name.

Research title

Research aimed at creating a biobank for bone and soft tissue tumors and elucidating the molecular pathology based on gene expression analysis, as well as improving prognosis

Research overview

Aims
Malignant bone and soft tissue tumors are cancerous diseases that occur in bone and soft tissue, but they only account for around 1% of all cancers. Furthermore, malignant bone and soft tissue tumors are classified in a very complex way based on pathological histology, and there are over 150 types of tissue, including both benign and malignant tumors. As a result, diagnosis is difficult, and there are cases where appropriate treatment cannot be provided. There are many cases of bone and soft tissue tumors with a poor prognosis due to the rarity of the disease, histological diversity, and intractability. The aim of this study is to develop biomarkers to assist in diagnosis and to elucidate the pathology with the aim of developing new treatment methods.
