We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

We are currently receiving a large number of applications for data submission, and the review process is taking longer than usual. We sincerely apologize for the delay and kindly ask for your understanding. When submitting an application, we would greatly appreciate it if you could allow sufficient time for the processing.

Following a change to our organizational structure effective April 1, 2026, this division has been renamed from the "Database Center for Life Science, Joint Support-Center for Data Science Research" to the "Database Division for Life Science (DBCLS), BioData Science Initiative (BSI), National Institute of Genetics (NIG)". Where the former name still appears in the guidelines, please read it as the new name.

Research title

Comprehensive genomic analysis to elucidate the molecular mechanism of initiation and progression of liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, biliary tract cancer, breast cancer, esophageal cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, head and neck cancer, bone and soft tissue sarcoma, and malignant melanoma.

Research overview

Aims
Intractable cancers (pancreatic, lung, colorectal, ovarian, uterine, esophageal, breast, bladder, kidney, and head and neck cancers; bone and soft tissue sarcoma; and malignant melanoma), as well as cancers that are more common in Japan (gastric, liver, and biliary tract cancers), were targeted. To clarify the onco-genomic landscape in relation to pathological conditions, we are conducting comprehensive, exploratory genomic analyses with the following aims: 1. To clarify genomic abnormalities. 2. To identify correlations between genomic abnormalities and malignant phenotypes of tumors (e.g., metastasis and invasion) that affect responses to various therapies and prognosis. 3. To establish new effective treatments and diagnostic methods.
Methods
