We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

We are currently receiving a large number of applications for data submission, and the review process is taking longer than usual. We sincerely apologize for the delay and kindly ask for your understanding. When submitting an application, we would greatly appreciate it if you could allow sufficient time for the processing.

Following a change to our organizational structure effective April 1, 2026, this division has been renamed from the "Database Center for Life Science, Joint Support-Center for Data Science Research" to the "Database Division for Life Science (DBCLS), BioData Science Initiative (BSI), National Institute of Genetics (NIG)". Where the former name still appears in the guidelines, please read it as the new name.

Research title

Molecular biological research affecting on long-term treatment to malignant tumors derived from the chest or abdomen / Genomic analysis of environment-associated tumors

Research overview

Aims
Malignant mesotheliomas (MMs) are highly aggressive adult malignancies and exposure to asbestos is the major factor involved in MM pathogenesis. It is desirable for a better understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of MM will lead to more specific and effective targeted therapies. It is reported that germline mutation in a specific gene associates familial MMs. New candidate markers to determine a subject's predisposition to MM and for early detection need to be identified. Analysis of genomic DNA from MM tumors and reference peripheral blood cells from Japan, USA, and Turkey's patients are ongoing to find the common genomic characters beyond race.
Methods
Array CGH for chromosome 3p21, Whole Genome Sequencing (NGS), Target Capture Sequencing (NGS) and Whole Exome Sequencing (NGS)
Participants/materials
Genomic DNA from MM tumors and reference peripheral blood cells
